A CONSCRIPT IN KOREA by Neville Williams - Book for sale. A British National Seviceman's no-nonsense no-hold barred account of service in the Korean War.

 Back cover blurb:

Korean War memoirs are rare but accounts by none-commissioned National Service conscripts are even more so. This remarkable story begins when, as a young National Serviceman in 1951, the author arrived at the Welsh Brigade Training Centre, Brecon, and ends when he was demobbed in 1953. Between these dates he spent twelve months with the 1st Battalion The Welch Regiment in Korea as part of the Commonwealth Division.

Brilliantly capturing the atmosphere of this grim yet almost forgotten war, he tells his story in graphic detail. Temperature could drop to -45° with biting Siberian winds. In the spring came monsoons followed by a humid mosquito-laden period. The Chinese were a resourceful and determined enemy, never missing a chance to edge forward even if it meant serious casualties. Artillery exchanges were fierce and patrols often clashed.

As a signaller, the author was involved at all levels of operational and company activity and he gives the reader a real insight into events and the thoughts of a young man caught up in a desperate and dangerous conflict.

In this fighting man’s no-nonsense no-holds-barred account, the tenacity and spirit of young National Serviceman and their Regular partners shines through in the face of extreme adversity.
